"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love" 1 John 4:18
In love, you feel safe, protected, and seen. However, we live in a world where even love feels uncertain. Sometimes couples take "breaks" in their relationships as a solution to help resolve issues, but it makes it more complicating for both parties. The real question to ask is why take a break at all?
Sometimes taking a break means there has been a breach of some sort; doubt, mistrust, or the lure of someone else. Too often, that "break" becomes a breakup. Spiritually, this is exactly how the enemy works--pulling us away from our First Love: God.
Imagine you have started to drift. You have been enticed by someone who looks good, says all the right things, and offers exactly what you think you have been missing. It is tempting and alluring that feels like love, but it is a trap!
In 2 Corinthians 11:14, it says, "Satan himself transforms into an angel of light." The emery will not always show up looking like evil. He will disguise deception as delight. Satan's goal is to make you question what God has already promised you.
There is a heartbreaking story in Judges 19 about a Levite who goes after his concubine and basically claims to care for her. However, when danger arose, the Levite gave her up to save himself. That is how the enemy operates. He will tell you he would not let you go, but when the pressure is on, he will.
God is nothing like that.
He did not let you go when things got hard. In fact, God gave His only Son, to die for you! Jesus, Himself, had chosen the cross over comfort, and pain over protection just to prove His love for you.
Even if you have taken a break from God, even if you have been lured elsewhere that looks like love but turned out to be a lie, God is still here, waiting with arms open. Real love, perfect love, never fails.
That perfect love comes from Jesus.
