"Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind pass over the earth, and the waters subsided." Genesis 8:1
Love is celebrated in all forms: romantic, family bonds, or platonic. We will be reflecting on a deeper, enduring love--one that stands strong in adversity. The story of Noah's Ark offers a powerful example of this love.
In Genesis 6, the world was filled with wickedness, and God was grieved by the choices of humanity. Yet, even in His sorrow, God's love remained unshaken. Genesis 6:6 says, "And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." This wasn't regret like how we might see it in our human forms, but this was sorrow for the destructive choices people made. It highlights God's unwavering commitment to His creation despite the pain caused by human sin.
Amid the darkness, God's grace shines through. Genesis 6:8 tells us, "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Despite the world's corruption, Noah's faithfulness allowed him and his family to find shelter in God's grace. This act of grace can be seen in the ark--God's provision of protection and refuge! In the same way, our relationships can be places of refuge, offering safety, support, and grace when storms hit.
A key moment in this story is found in Genesis 8:1: "Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided." After the floodwaters receded, this moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for Noah and his family. Just as God remembered Noah, He remembers us--offering us new beginnings, even after the darkest times!
In this season of love, let's reflect on God's love and grace, choosing to be a refuge for others. Just as God's love never wavers, let us commit to showing steadfast love, grace, and patience in our relationships, offering the chance for renewal and fresh starts.
Father, we seen the story and read what you have done for Noah and his family. Continue to remember us, God, and give us the strength of renewal in our relationship with You and others. Thank you for never giving up on us, even when we stray away. Grant us the faith to hold onto You, and be an ark for our loved ones, too. In Jesus's name, Amen.
